NEARSHORE

The flight from Milan lands in Tirana before the espresso has worn off. An hour and a half in the air, a taxi through a city where the engineer meeting you speaks Italian, and a sprint review in your own language by lunchtime. That is the case for Albania as a nearshore base for an Italian company, and it is a good one. It is also where most Italian buyers stop thinking, and that is the mistake.

This guide to the best software partners for Italian companies in Albania is written from Tirana by one of those partners. The list is ours and UnyoCorp sits at the top of it; the reasons are on the page, and so are the other names we would give an Italian founder. One caveat before the list: we have no Italian client to point to. What we have is a German one with published numbers, and the point of that case is that the border did not matter.

Why most Italian nearshore projects fail

Proximity gets mistaken for process. Because Tirana is close and the language is shared, an Italian buyer assumes the project will manage itself and buys hours from whoever answered the phone first. Hours have no end. Six months later there is a large invoice, a half-finished product and a very warm relationship, and nobody can say what the finished thing will cost.

The second failure is the handoff. A sales office in Milan, an account manager in the middle, engineers you never meet: every layer adds a translation, and the shared language stops helping. The fix is structural, not linguistic. Buy a fixed scope, insist on a demo every two weeks, and talk to the people who write the code.

The agencies

1. UnyoCorp (Tirana)

UnyoCorp is an AI-native product engineering studio in Tirana, founded by Firdeus Kasaj: eight engineers in one room, no handoffs, 130+ projects shipped to clients in 10+ countries. There is no sales office in between. The people on the first call are engineers, and the engineers stay on the calls.

The cross-border proof is Enjoy Clean Berlin, a direct-booking platform for a German cleaning-services company: pick a service, see the price, choose a slot, pay, in German and on a phone. Two months after launch online bookings were up 60% and bounce rate was down 35%, figures the client put in a Clutch-verified review. Germany is further from Tirana than Italy is, in language as much as in kilometres. If the model holds across that border, the Adriatic is not an obstacle.

The model is the same for every client. Scope is earned in a two-week sprint, which for AI work is the AI Sprint at €3K to €6K fixed and ends with a live prototype and a build quote valid for 30 days. A Product Build is 4 to 10 weeks at €15K to €45K fixed, paid 40/40/20 on milestones, with a demo every two weeks, the first inside 10 business days, and a written update every Friday. After launch, Care & Growth on quarterly terms keeps the product fast and AI Ops keeps an AI system monitored, because shipped is the midpoint. The studio's own shipped products include Nexus, a marketing content platform designed natively in Albanian with AI-assisted image and video generation, and Patoko, realtime 3D gameplay running inside a consumer product on mid-tier phones.

Best for: Italian companies that want one product or AI system built at a fixed price, demoed every two weeks, by engineers they can meet for lunch.

2. Reply (Turin)

A large listed consulting and systems integration group with many specialist units, based in Italy.

Best for: Italian enterprises that want a domestic group running a multi-team programme.

3. Tegeria (Tirana)

A software development company that builds custom platforms for European clients.

Best for: Italian mid-sized companies commissioning a bespoke platform from a Tirana team.

4. Keendoo (Tirana)

A nearshore software development company, organised around serving clients abroad.

Best for: companies adding nearshore capacity without setting up a branch.

5. Ritech (Tirana)

A software development company with an engineering base in Tirana and an international client list.

Best for: a dedicated engineering base in Tirana on a long engagement.

6. Softup Technologies (Tirana)

A software development company working across web and mobile, with team extension as one of its offers.

Best for: Italian companies extending an in-house team with engineers in Tirana.

Overall, I was very satisfied with their work.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Will the engineers be on the calls, and in which language?
  • What is the fixed price for the scope on the table, and what would change it?
  • When is the first demo, and is it running software or a slide?
  • Who owns the code, the cloud accounts and the model keys? It should be our company, in Italy.
  • What happens in month seven, and what does it cost per month?
  • Can I speak to a client outside Albania who has been through the whole cycle?

Albania is an EU candidate country in the Central European time zone, and direct flights connect Tirana with the major European hubs, Italy about an hour and a half away. None of that ships software; a fixed scope and a demo every two weeks do. If you want to test the model, send a brief through unyocorp.com. You will hear back the same business day.
