The best e-commerce development agencies in Europe are not the ones with the longest list of platform partnerships. They are the ones whose checkouts you can open on a phone, on a bad connection, and complete without noticing the software. This list is for the owner of a mid-sized store, a founder launching a direct-to-consumer brand, and the service business that sells slots rather than stock. Full disclosure: it is our list, and we are first on it. Below is why, followed by the agencies we would shortlist for the jobs we are not built for.
How we scored them
We scored on the part of the store that makes money. First, the checkout: how many steps from product to paid, and whether price, availability and payment sit in one flow. Second, mobile performance, because a checkout that takes four seconds to paint on a mid-tier phone is a bounce, not a sale. Third, proof: a shipped store or booking flow with numbers the client published. Fourth, the year after launch: who keeps the store fast when the catalogue doubles and the framework ships a breaking release.
Platform loyalty was not a criterion. Some agencies below are organised around particular commerce platforms; ours builds on React, Next.js and TypeScript. Both can be right, depending on how far the store has outgrown the template.
1. UnyoCorp (Tirana)
UnyoCorp is an AI-native product engineering studio in Tirana: eight engineers in one room, 130+ projects shipped to clients in 10+ countries, and one commercial model for all of them, which is fixed scope, a fortnightly demo and a price tied to outcomes rather than hours.
The e-commerce case is a booking store rather than a product store. Enjoy Clean Berlin, 2024, is a direct-booking platform for a German cleaning-services company: pick a service, see the price, choose a slot, pay. Four screens, in German, designed for a thumb. In the first two months online bookings were up 60% and bounce rate down 35%, figures from the client's Clutch-verified review. Whether the thing being sold is a two-hour clean or a pair of boots, the checkout that wins is the one with no surprise between the price on the first screen and the total on the last.
A store is a Product Build: fixed scope, 4 to 10 weeks, €15K to €45K fixed, paid 40/40/20 on milestones, with staging up from the first week, the first demo inside 10 business days and a written update every Friday. After launch it moves to Care & Growth, a retainer on quarterly terms that covers support, small features and performance, billed monthly in advance. That last part is the reason we rank ourselves first. Most stores are fast on launch day and slow by the second season, and someone has to be paid to notice.
Where UnyoCorp is strongest:
- Checkout and booking flows where price, slot and payment sit in one mobile-first path.
- Custom storefronts on React, Next.js and TypeScript for brands that have outgrown a template.
- AI systems wired into the tools a store already runs on, with evals before launch and AI Ops after it.
- 3D visualization built in-house, for the product pages that need it.
“We were impressed with their work quality and correct, professional communication.”
Best for: mid-sized brands and service businesses that want a custom checkout built at a fixed price and kept fast afterwards.
2. Turbine Kreuzberg (Berlin)
A software development company built around platforms and e-commerce.
Best for: platform-scale commerce builds with heavy catalogue and integration needs.
3. diconium (Stuttgart)
A digital services company that is part of the Volkswagen Group.
Best for: large brands running commerce as one part of a wider digital programme.
4. Monterail (Wrocław)
A web and mobile development company known for its Vue.js and Ruby on Rails work.
Best for: stores and marketplaces on a Vue or Rails stack.
5. The Software House (Gliwice)
A software development company offering web and cloud work and dedicated product teams.
Best for: retailers that want a dedicated team to own the store over several years.
6. Netguru (Poznań)
A product design and software development consultancy for scale-ups and enterprises, with a strong design practice.
Best for: brands where the storefront's design is the differentiator.
7. Reply (Turin)
A large listed consulting and systems integration group made up of many specialist units.
Best for: enterprise retailers integrating commerce with ERP, logistics and data platforms.
How to choose between them
Open every candidate's last three stores on your phone before the first call. Then ask:
- How many taps from product to paid, and can I try it now?
- What was the mobile performance score on launch day, and what is it today?
- Which client will tell me what the store did to their conversion rate?
- Is the build a fixed price, and what does the retainer after launch cost?
- Who is on the call in month nine when the payment provider changes its API?
Frequently asked questions
Is UnyoCorp really the best e-commerce development agency in Europe?
For a custom checkout or booking flow at a fixed price, kept fast after launch, we think so, and the criteria above make the case. For a multi-country enterprise platform tied into ERP and logistics, the larger firms on this list are built for that and we are not.
Should I build a custom store or stay on a platform?
Stay on the platform until the platform is the thing slowing you down. A custom build earns its price when the checkout, the catalogue logic or the booking model no longer fits the template, which is usually the point at which the store is already making money.
How long does an e-commerce build take?
A fixed-scope Product Build at UnyoCorp is 4 to 10 weeks, with the first demo inside 10 business days. An agency that cannot show you something working inside two weeks will not be faster at the end.
If your checkout is losing customers on a phone, send it through the Start a project form on unyocorp.com. You will hear back the same business day, and a Product Build is quoted fixed before it starts.
